We all want to spoil a new mom to be. It is in our nature to buy all of the things that we found we could not live without when we had kids. But there are some baby gifts that you should probably steer clear of in the general sense of the matter. Here are 3 categories of items to pass by when shopping for baby gifts.
1. You should avoid purchasing any type of used baby furniture such as infant car seats, high chairs, baby swings, baby carriers, baby cribs, playpens, bassinets, strollers, etc.
Every year, thousands of baby furniture recalls take place and unless you know 100% that the item you are purchasing on the secondary market is not on a recall list, then don't buy it! Furthermore, most moms-to-be expect to have baby shower gifts that were purchased new, not used!
2. While purchasing cloth diapers, disposable diapers, changing pads, diaper pins, baby wipes and all of those other baby diapering products are necessity items...many moms get an over-abundance of them at their baby showers.
If you want to give mom a bunch of diapering products, consider presenting the mom-to-be with a gift card instead. Mom can go out and buy the brand of diapers she prefers, in the size she needs and then she can get them when she needs them, along with the other products that she wants to use.
3. It is best to avoid purchasing baby bottles, baby bottle liners, pacifiers and baby formula unless you know ahead of time which bottle system the new mother-to-be will be using.
Babies do not like feeding from a couple of different styles of bottles so it's best to let "mom" pick out the feeding system that she wants to use. If this is a gift that mom needs, consider giving her a gift card to her local baby store to pick out the feeding products that she wants to use.
Using these tips when shopping for your next baby shower gift will help you chose a great gift that the mom and baby are going to be thrilled with receiving and love using.
